Responsibilities:
Summary:
The Chief Operating Engineer is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of boiler/refrigeration equipment and systems, and for coordinating the activities of the boiler & refrigeration personnel as required.
This position will perform all responsibilities in accordance with company standard operating procedures (SOP's), practices, and safety rules as well as appropriate industry and regulatory guidelines, rules, and regulations.
This position will hold the highest applicable license/certification required by the governing regulatory agency.
This position oversee' s and performs utility equipment & process maintenance throughout the facility.
Multi craft Maintenance responsibilities include, but not limited to, equipment breakdowns, installation and startups, process improvements, preventative/precision maintenance, and continuous improvements activities i.
e.
increasing machine reliability and installation of facility capital investments.
This position does include responsibilities related on on-site project and maintenance contractor coordination.
Candidates must be a self-starter willing to accept maintenance process responsibility and KPI results.

Responsibilities:
Ability to respond in an efficient and effective manner to urgent facility needs related to utility equipment.
Responsible for responding to chemical (including ammonia) leaks/spills; will be on the plant Emergency Response TeamCommunicate with the equipment manufacturers/vendors on any problems and follow-up on getting the right parts needed to correct the problemsMust work with various refrigerants, chemicals, solvents, paints, fuels and lubricantsComply to and monitor operation for compliance with all 14 elements of the Process Safety Management Program Operate and maintain all engine room and other equipment including ammonia refrigeration, boilers, pumps, compressors, condensers, and electrical systems.
Help develop and follow established standard operating procedures for safety, health, environment, and productionAbility to read and understand diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications to disassemble, repair, replace, rebuild, and install mechanical equipment.
Knowledge, understanding and ability to replace belts, sheaves, chains, sprockets, bearings, lubrication standards, and applications.
Able to provide tension and alignment to bearings, pulleys, chain drives, belt drives.
Understanding & knowledge of fasteners, thread types, and proper applicationsUtilize CMMS to support the maintenance function including review, execution, and documentation of scheduled/unscheduled work daily.
Ability to diagnose and repair all mechanical power transmission equipment.
Basic knowledge of gear boxes, mechanical drives, variable speed applications, and motors.
Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration and lubrication devices.
Diagnose and repair refrigeration, steam, and pneumatic systems.
Knowledge of cylinders, valves, manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration and lubrication devices.
Competent understanding of working principles of heat exchangers, pumps, valving, and water distribution systems.
Competent understanding of fire and sprinkler systems including regulated preventive maintenanceUse of mechanical tools, hand tools, and power tools.
Including the use of precision measurement instruments.
Ability to demonstrate basic electrical knowledge, including use of a multimeter, test for blown fuse and troubleshoot motor control circuits.
Knowledge of pipe fitting, insulating, rigging applications.
Ability to measure, cut, ream, thread, and join various materials of piping.

Coordination of on-site project and maintenance contractors including required documentationEnsure regulatory compliance at all times.
Monitor, correct, and perform other means necessary to minimize the effects of unfavorable conditions in rooms that require temperature, moisture, and air flow controls to decrease downtime.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent5
years' experience in industrial operations, plant operations, maintenance, utilities and/or related field.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to do basic math PERFERED EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:
Prior training and education in OSHA 10 Hour, Arc Flash, LOTO, electrical systems and fall protection Prior training in operational use of HAZMAT standards Prior food manufacturing experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
